What is a term of service?

A term of service with AmeriCorps is a year-long paid opportunity. The mission of AmeriCorps is to provide opportunities for citizens of all ages to help improve the nation through service to communities making our environment cleaner, our children healthier, our schools better and our streets safer. Whether you’re figuring out what’s next after high school or college, searching for an opportunity to make a difference in your community, looking to gain skills and experience in a specific field, or wanting a career change — an AmeriCorps opportunity through The Service Collaborative of WNY could be right for you! TSC AmeriCorps members serve in schools, community centers, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. If you are interested in working directly with children and youth or gaining experience in a school setting, check out the AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) page. If you are passionate about financial literacy and working in a case-management setting- check out our new program, Economic Development Corps. Are you more interested in behind the scenes work such as program development, fundraising, and volunteer management? Head over the Serve New York VISTA page.

Most service years offer a $1,000 monthly living allowance that is paid bi-weekly in the form of direct deposit. TSC service opportunities also come with additional benefits, including: basic health insurance, childcare, and more. Most members will also qualify for public benefits, including: SNAP (food stamps) and HEAP (heating assistance).
