For the last month and a half, students from the Service Collaborative have participated in a Hospitality Training Course through Community Services for Every1. This training was designed to not only help today’s youth prepare for work in hospitality, but also allowed them a chance to gain Certification in lodging areas such as the Front Desk and Housekeeping. Though they still have to take the Front Desk Representative Exam, we are excited to announce that all of the students have passed the Housekeeping Exam and are now Certified Guestroom Attendants!
In addition classroom lessons and activities, the students have had the opportunity to tour some local lodging properties; some of which include The Sheraton in Niagara Falls, NY and the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Buffalo. Job Shadowing is also on the horizon as the students return to the Sheraton and prepare to gain hands on experience in the field as Guestroom Attendants and Front Desk Representatives.
We have also welcomed several Guest Speakers from various properties around the area. The students not only had a chance to listen in, but also actively participated in a Q&A session geared towards company policies and procedures. Each speaker provided great insight on what they look for in potential employees and encouraged the students to check out their websites for any current openings!
