Education. Service. Commitment. Meaningful Experience.
Who We AreAmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE), mobilizes people in national service to revive and strengthen educational environments, expanding opportunities for today's youth and transforming America's future – one student, one classroom, and one community at a time. We engage individuals from the communities we serve as well as those who wish to be a part of the communities we serve to commit to serve the youth for a term a service, while growing as professionals. ABLE members enhance the capacity of partner sites by increasing the site’s ability to provide quality education and positively impacting student achievement.

“My experience with the ABLE program has been one of the most rewarding educational collaborations of my 25 years in public education. The support provided by the ABLE leadership team including recruitment, volunteer training and support, communication and administration of the grant, and genuine interest in impacting our community is exemplary! I have found that the program has proven not only to have a positive impact on our school, but has contributed to the development of our future educational professionals. My experience this past year has impacted my recruitment of professionals at my school, promoting AmeriCorps ABLE volunteers to the top of my candidate pool.”
ServicesABLE members implement social/emotional and/or math interventions for 4th-10th graders in hopes to increase attendance, class participation, and math scores, as well as decrease disciplinary referrals and suspensions. Members serve full-time and can assist in other aspects of the educational program. While members are serving the students, they are growing their skill sets through their hands on experience, professional development opportunities, and mentorship of teachers and staff.
AmeriCorps members have proven to be great assets for the ABLE program and its partners over its 12 years of operation. Members have been instrumental in establishing and expanding educational programs offered to students in WNY. Full-time: Member commits to a 50-week term, completes 1700 hours of service within that time frame and implements at least one of the ABLE interventions. RFP for the 2017-18 school year is due by 4pm on Monday, May 1st. Please see the 2017-18 RFP to APPLY! All public, private, parochial, charter schools and non-profits are eligible to partner with ABLE. The program targets Western New York and the City of Buffalo. Being a partner of ABLE and hosting AmeriCorps members carries a lot of responsibility. Members must receive onsite orientation and weekly check-ins; member timesheets must be reviewed online and approved bi-weekly; member evaluations must be completed and submitted mid-year and end of year; activities of members must be monitored; in-kind match must be reported; and progress reports must be submitted. Any potential partner that does not have the staff time or resources to meet these requirements, should not apply. If you have any questions regarding partnership, please contact Program Manager, Lauren Kalczynski, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
