Who do members serve? ABLE members serve K-12 students by tutoring and providing academic assistance. 

What do members do?  ABLE members serve K-12 students in schools within the city of Buffalo by tutoring and providing academic support.

When do they serve? ABLE members serve full-time (40 hours per week) for one year.

Why do members serve? 

This year has been one of the hardest years of my life.  Exactly a year ago I walked into a situation that was completely foreign to me.  I had no experience in a school setting but I was determined to do my best to help serve my community.  Throughout the year I faced so many challenges with the faculty I was working with.  So many times I wanted to quit but I kept serving for the sake of the kids and not the faculty.  It has now been a year and I couldn’t be happier to wake up and serve another day in AmeriCorps at the same site.  I’ve learned that one must fight through the tough times and that good things come for those that wait.  This has been a year I’ll never forget.   --Sean Kirsch 2011-2012 ABLE Member, Currently Enrolled in Second Term
